As soon as you have feedback around a circuit stage (such as inside an opamp, discrete amplifier stage or even as inherent part of triode tube without bypassed cathode) or want to have good headroom and linearity, any clipping by definition becomes more or less hard. There is of course clipping and distortion in SSL, it just isn’t very soft. My comment should be taken to be about the actual SSL circuitry, not the (probably musically more useful) additions you’ve made. I'll be doing some modelling of not only the input and output stages of the older SSL compressors, but also the DBX chip, all of which will add a little character.Long time no talk! This is just a couple of voltage offset diodes clipping the signal like a stomp box, so it's pretty rough. It's taken from the design of the DBX 166 Peakstop circuit. Hey Antti! The Soft Clip is a basic waveshaper on the back end of the The Glue.
